Bombningen av Dresden utfördes av brittiska Royal Air Force (RAF) och USA:s flygvapen (USAAF) mellan den 13 februari och 15 februari Sachsens huvudstad Dresden bombades av engelska och amerikanska plan varpå en eldstorm skapades som förstörde 6,5 kvadratkilometer av innerstaden. Natten mellan den 13 och 14 februari bombades staden av engelska och amerikanska bombplan med 3 ton brandbomber. Man använde den första generationen brandbomber med petroleum, som orsakade brandstormar, medan efterföljande sprängbomber lade staden i aska och grus. Bränderna var så intensiva att människor stående ute på gatan sögs in i brinnande huskroppar.[3]
